From Gangs To Greece

Other Books

The author’s remarkable story shows why “adults have such an impact and make such an impression on young men and women” (Armstrong 10).

The journey it took Sensei Dave Armstrong to be the great man the world knows today was not an easy one. In addition to the importance of mentorships, his story is also one of resilience and lessons learned along the way that caused him to be the great leader he is today.

The story of Mr. Armstrong will tug at your heartstrings. The vulnerability displayed throughout each chapter provides insight on what some experience in the foster care system. Readers will be compelled to serve others and take steps to do the best they can to the best of their ability to make a difference in the life of another person.

Gangs to Greece by Dave Armstrong is an honest thought-provoking and captivating account of the trials tribulations struggles and triumphs Dave faced growing up as a child in the foster care system and making his way through his adulthood. He shares details of those people who influenced and impacted his life in positive ways and also provides insight and advice for professionals who work with children in the foster care system.

In this book he reveals both his strength and heart in addition to his regrets and mistakes which the latter is much more difficult to admit to. Overall it is well written organized and a book I didn't want to put down. It is a very inspirational and motivating life story.

This book allowed us to take a peek inside of what Dave went through. To know that one who grew up with so much against him still survives and achieves so much in life is always a great story to share with those living in similar situations. Military isn't the only way out but it is one way out.

I loved the notes for those working with or wanting to work with kids with a hard background. Those notes are from someone who knows how to connect and teach you how you can connect as well as reminding you that you may not be a fit for someone but you may know the perfect person to help get through to them.

If you are looking for that real story and how to connect with kids or ideas on how you can help this book and author is a great read to help you get there!

Sensei Dave Armstrong was a product of a broken family, torn apart by the tragic loss of his mother at the age of 12, leading to an early life in foster care, and youth correction facilities.

As an “at-risk” youth and a “product” of the inner-city educational system, young Dave was predestined to run with gangs, NOT graduate high school and be dead or in jail by the age of 18.

After his mother passed away, Sensei Dave lost all contact with his family, and was in and out of boy’s homes, juvenile hall, and foster homes in San Bernardino, California, for over 5 years.

Sensei Dave now is retired after 24 years of service to our country in the United States Air Force. He has also sat on the Board of Directors as Vice President for non-profit organizations, created his own Martial Arts Mentoring program, and owned three martial arts schools (Faith Martial Arts Inc.) in the United States.

As a U.S. Air Force Veteran, Sensei Dave has been able to travel and see the world, spreading his positive and motivational personality from country to country.

Sensei Dave is living in Greece, where he is also an Executive/Leadership/Sucess

Life Coach and CEO of Inspire To Aspire Youth Empowerment.
